This class will go into depth on what light to choose for tactical shooting, from handheld lights to lights for your firearms.

Why have low light training?

Tactical Reality: Most violent encounters occur in low-light conditions (dawn, dusk, indoors, nighttime). Criminals often choose darker environments to commit crimes. Home defense situations frequently happen at night or in poorly lit areas. Law enforcement officers often respond to calls in challenging lighting.

Vision and Target Identification: Develops skills to properly identify threats versus innocent bystanders. Teaches safe target acquisition when visibility is compromised. Reduces risk of misidentifying targets in shadows or partial lighting. Emphasizes the critical importance of positive target identification before shooting.

Equipment Proficiency: Trains proper use of weapon-mounted lights and handheld flashlights. Develops muscle memory for light activation under stress. Teaches various lighting techniques (Harries, FBI, Chapman, etc.). Builds familiarity with night sights and tritium inserts.

Marksmanship Challenges: Sight alignment becomes more difficult in reduced light. Requires different shooting techniques and sight picture acquisition. Develops ability to shoot accurately with limited visual references. Teaches proper use of backup iron sights in low light.

Safety Considerations: Emphasizes trigger discipline when using lights that may temporarily blind the shooter. Teaches proper muzzle control when manipulating lighting equipment. Develops awareness of how light can both help and hinder situational awareness. Trains safe movement and positioning with weapons and lights.

Stress Inoculation: Low light conditions increase stress and cognitive load. Training builds confidence and reduces panic in these scenarios. Develops decision-making skills under challenging conditions.

The fundamental principle is that if you might need to use a firearm defensively, you must be prepared to do so effectively and safely regardless of lighting conditions.
